Pastry Recipes for Camping

The next time you go camping, you've got to try these pastry recipes! They are easy, quick, and simply delicious. Below you'll find recipes for sugar biscuits, doughnuts, pies, and more. And remember, we'd love to publish any pastry recipes that you would like to share with us.

Cinnamon Sugar Biscuits

This recipe comes from another one of our readers, Amy McPherson from Christiansburg, VA. This sounds delicious! Thanks Amy. And here it is in her own words:

My husband and I took our daughters (ages 6 & 3) on their first camping trip last weekend. One of my goals was to have meals that they could prepare with us and have fun with. The big hit of the weekend turned out to be cinnamon- sugar biscuits.

  • 1 Can of Refrigerated Biscuits
  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 stick of butter (sliced)
  • Separate the biscuits and roll between your hands to make a dough snake. Wrap each dough "snake" around the end of a stick in a coil and hold over fire to cook. Be patient and cook slowly so the outside doesn't burn before the inside is done! (Message for those who like to ignite their marshmallows!)

Mix sugar, cinnamon and butter slices in a ziploc bag. When you remove the cooked biscuit coil from the stick, fill the center with the butter mixture. Then spread some around the outside of the biscuit, too. Yummy!

    Fried Pie Fritters

This is a quick and easy pastry recipes. And they taste a lot like Hostess Fruit Pies from the convenience mart.

  • 1 can of large refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 can of fruit pie filling (your choice)
  • 1 Stick of Butter
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Cinnamon
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
  • One biscuit at a time, put a spoonful of pie filling into the middle of the biscuit. Fold the dough over and pinch the edges together. Fry the "pie" in butter over medium heat until it is golden brown and crispy. Remove the "pie" and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Be sure to let them cool for a few minutes before eating as the filling will be hot.
