Knife and Multi-tool Reviews

Here you will find all of our knife and multi-tool reviews. A knife or a multi-tool like a Leatherman is one of our ten camping essentials. But you want to make sure you have a good multi-tool or knife, so be sure to read all of the reviews of brands such as Leatherman, Gerber Knives, and more.

Leatherman Micra Multi-Tool
Leatherman Micra

Overview:

Weighing less then 2 ounces, the Leatherman Micra is an excellent blend of useful tools, smallness, and light weight. It's small enough to use as a key chain, and that is usually how I carry mine. I have found myself using the Micra for a variety of tasks: cutting moleskin, pulling out slivers, fixing household gadgets, filing rough toe nails, etc.

Positives:

  • Very Small and Lightweight (2.5" long, 1.75 ounces)
  • Extremely Durable and Tough
  • Good assortment of tools:
  • Scissors
  • Clip-point knife
  • Tweezers
  • Nail file/cleaner
  • Flat phillips screwdriver
  • Extra small screwdriver
  • Medium screwdriver
  • Bottle opener
  • Ruler (inch/metric 0, Lanyard attachment
  • All of the tools work very well
  • Perfect size for a key chain
  • Small enough to fit in your pocket
  • Useful enough to carry with you at all times
  • Comes in red, blue, and green as well
  • Negatives:

  • Does not have needle-nose pliers
  • Possibly a little too small for large jobs
  • You have to open it all the way to get to the knife blade
  • Bottom Line:

This is a great little tool. Since it is so small yet so useful, it is perfect for just about everybody (especially minimalist hikers). I got mine as a gift for being in a wedding, and I've used it ever since. It will last nearly forever, and you won't believe how often you find yourself using it. I keep mine on my keychain, and it always amazes me how often I use it.
