Cereal Recipes for Breakfast

Cereal is a staple of most camping experiences. But with these cereal recipes breakfast doesn't have to be boring . Check them out below. We'd love to share any of your favorites with the rest of our guests. Please send them our way.


Fruity Breakfast Rice

Rice for breakfast? You bet! Try it... You'll like it.

  • 1/2 Cup chopped dried apricots
  • 1/2 Cup raisins
  • 3 Cups water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Cup Dry milk
  • 1/2 Cup cream of rice
  • 1/4 Cup brown sugar
  • Combine apricots and water and bring to a boil. Stir in the other ingredients and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Cover and remove from heat. Let stand 5 minutes.

    2-3 Servings


    Three Bears Porridge

    This is a hearty, "stick-to-your-ribs" kind of breakfast.

  • 1/2 Cup cracked wheat
  • 1/2 Cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 Cup dry milk powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup raisins
  • 1/4 Cup chopped dried apricots
  • 3 Cups boiling water
  • Add dry ingredients to boiling water in saucepan or pot. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Bring back to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 10 to 15 minutes, or until desired consistency. Add honey or sugar to taste.

    3-4 Servings


    Lazy Boy's Breakfast

    This cereal recipe is great for campers in a rush, and it's perfect for backpackers.

  • 1-2 Cups of any quick cooking cereal
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 Cup of raisins or other dried fruit
  • Before crawling into your sleeping bag, fill a wide vacuum bottle (commonly called a thermos) or wide-mouth Nalgene water bottle half full of any quick cooking cereal (like instant oatmeal), 1/2 tsp salt, and a handfull of raisins or dried fruit. Add boiling water to 1" from the top. Replace the stopper and cap or lid. Cooked cereal is waiting in the morning. Eat it cold or warm it quickly in a pot with a little water.
